| Objections
1. Everything they do is just part of
the job / they get paid anyway.
-
People do the job with the assumption that
they will get tips.
It is their primary source of
income.
Their employers assume they will receive
tips.
Tips are an essential part of the job.
-
You could think the same way about your waiter,
that their work is just part of the job, but they get tips. The driver functions like your waiter on
wheels. They take food all the way to your house. For a more detailed comparison between drivers
and wait-persons, please click
here.
-
Tips are necessary. Without it, drivers make
minimum or sub-minimum wage and that's hardly a just compensation. They use their own car
and must pay their own gas, maintenance, and repairs.
It is expected that tips will cover those
costs and make a decent wage. Otherwise, they end up making less than minimum
wage.
-
Even minimum wage is unacceptable because
the job has safety hazards in driving, facing bad weather, and possible
robbery attempts.
-
If you see a sign that says drivers make $10
an hour, it's misleading because tips are assumed
in the figure.
-
The driver really has two jobs, an in-store
job and a delivery job. They receive minimum wage for the in-store job and
tips for the delivery job. For more information, please see
other duties
of a delivery driver.
-
Tips encourage optimum service.

-
Tipping is the way customers reward good service
and punish bad service. It encourages the driver to perform well, instead
of giving poor service. This job can really test one's patience. It's very
easy to get away with slacking off or losing patience. Drivers work unsupervised in their own car.
-
Typically, a driver takes more than one delivery
at a time. Those who don't tip get their food last. We remember customers
who don't tip. They receive lowest priority and the worst level of service.
The driver wants to get revenge. Some drivers might do far worse things.
-
People who don't tip make it obvious that they have no concern
about promptness or quality service. Tippers receive better service. Those
you don't tip deserve the worst.
-
It's cruel to reduce someone to sub-minimum wage
when the tip is expected for service. Not tipping is considered an insult.
It costs the driver gas, repairs, and loss of personal safety when facing
traffic and possible robbery attempts.
-
If the job suddenly became minimum wage with no tips, all
the drivers would quit. They would at least get a non-driving minimum wage job. Then they would not wear down their cars. This job is meant to be higher than minimum wage.
-
Please tip the driver. It keeps pizza delivery
alive. Tips are appreciated.
