Objections to tipping


Some customers erroneously blame the driver for things that were not the driver's fault. Sometimes they don't understand the nature of the job. This page will attempt to debunk the most popular myths and excuses against tipping.

Here are some hypothetical objections

1. Everything they do is just part of the job / they get paid anyway

2. You don't tip the UPS or FedEx driver or the police, so why tip the pizza driver?

3. The driver doesn't do anything

4. The pizza was late

5. The pizza was early

6. There was a delivery charge / fee

7. I can't afford the tip / the prices are high / penny-pinching

8. I'm sending a message by not tipping

9. The pizza was free / discounted

10. I got the wrong pizza or part of the order was wrong/missing

11. The driver didn't give me any parmesan cheese, red peppers, or napkins

12. There was a long delivery time

13. How do I know the driver didn't waste time?

14. It took longer than 30 minutes

15. I'm not used to tipping

16. Tips are only for above and beyond the call of duty
