23. Drivers make $10, 12, or 15 an
hour.
-
Domino's has a sign that says drivers make
up to $10 or $12 an hour. Pizza Hut advertises $15 an hour. This has led some customers to believe the base
pay is $12 or $15 an hour before tips. As if tips were on top of that.
-
The sign is misleading. The hourly wage for drivers is minimum or near-minimum wage.
(Some stores pay sub-minimum wage.)
- The sign assumes tips in the figure. They assume drivers will make $12 or $15 an hour with tips included, and that's with good tips.
-
-
A more accurate sign would say, "Drivers earn up to $12
an hour AFTER tips." Unfortunately, most store ads don't mention tips.
-
If you object because the driver makes more
than you, the tip is not based on what
you have, but is a payment for services.
