| Delivery story 13

My fiance and I both worked for an independently owned pizza delivery store in Gainesville, Florida (that's where the love blossomed!) when we were in college. I mainly worked on the inside, making pizzas and taking orders (I was NOT one of the idiotic phone people, but I know what you mean) and he was a delivery driver. We can relate with many of the gripes -- the unintelligible Ebonics, crappy trailer parks, scary ghettos, getting stiffed -- the whole, lovely lot. But as a woman, I had a nice upper-hand whenever I had to deliver. Our store stayed open until 4:00 AM on the weekends. Once or twice a month, we would get an order from this one customer who frequently had a bunch of friends over and he would always order about 10 minutes before we closed. They weren't being @$%#&$#s; it was just the time they got home from the bar. During the weekends, most of the drivers would be out taking the last of their orders, so I would just run the order out to the guys myself. Now, in the summer in Florida, it gets EXTREMELY hot, especially inside our poorly-equipped store, so my attire usually consisted of short shorts and a t-shirt tied up around my waist and knotted at my stomach. You can imagine the pleasant surprise of a house full of drunk guys when a chick shows up at their door at 4:00 AM with their pizza instead of some tired, pissed off, pimply-faced kid (not that any of our wonderful drivers looked like that!!!) Needless to say, they were always very polite and appreciative and I always walked away with an 8-15 dollar tip! I miss them.
The weirdest story that my boyfriend can remember (there have been so many) was this one customer that he delivered to two or three times. Every time my boyfriend got to the guy's apartment, there would just be a note and an envelope on the guy's door instructing my boyfriend to just leave the pizza in front of the door and to take the money from the envelope. He never wanted change and always left a very generous tip. He never once saw the guy and the lights were always turned off on the inside of the apartment. But the weirdest part was that my boyfriend said he could tell that someone was watching him from inside the dark apartment through the blinds. Weird.
