Delivery story 469

Being a driver for five years and working in store for longer than that, I have dealt with all sorts of crap. This story which happened a few months ago, is one of the more teeth grinding ones. I was working for a chain store (not one of the big 3) in Wyoming during the winter. As you can imagine it was quite frigid and snowy. We had a delayed order of about 20 pizzas for 7:30 to the high school for the visiting college basketball team. As per usual in poor weather, we were quite busy, so I had to take an order further south of town with it.

I park in front of the school, and trudge through the wind and snow up the slippery steps. All 115 lbs of me carrying the stack of pizzas damn near as tall as me. I get inside the gym and the game is still going on, very close with about 4 minutes left. What I failed to register, is how long 4 minutes of college basketball is actually gonna take. I need the coach to pay for the order, and no way they are gonna let me collect the money from him during this. I should have taken the other order and came back, but thinking it would be over soon, and the possibility of a nice tip hindered my judgment.

Fifteen minutes later the game ends and the coach heads into the locker room! I find someone to go tell him his pizza is here. Finally, he comes out, exact amounts me, and takes the pizzas back to the locker room. I'm pretty pissed by now. I walk outside and up to my car to find my topper had been stolen. No tip from that other delivery either.
