I'm a driver for Marco's Pizza in middle Georgia. Had to take a $52 order to one of the furthest sectors in our delivery zone. When I got there a man was already in the driveway to greet me. He asked, "Did my wife pay already?" I looked at the receipt and said, "No, not yet." He invited me into the very nice house and I waited in the kitchen while he kept yelling for his wife.
After a few minutes she finally showed up and said to follow her to the garage because her money was in her car. She turns around with a $100 bill in her hand. I tell her the policy about our drivers not being allowed to carry more than $20 in change with them. This upset her as she said, "Well, the girl that took my order didn't tell me this." Normally I would suggest the customer call the store and pay by card but I just blurted out, "Well, I can go to the store and get you some change." She said that would be fine and while I was about to get in the truck she asked what my name was, I'm assuming just in case I never returned.
Since my house is between the pizza place and her house I decide to go get $48 from there and return since going to a gas station for change would be a pain. All the time I'm muttering to myself about what a pain this woman is and how I'm wasting gas and I could have done two more runs by now.
So I get the money and head back to the customer's house, knock, hand her the money and say, "Your change is $48." She proceeds to count it while I think, "Guess she doesn't trust me." At this point she begins to smile and hands me the $48 while saying "Merry Christmas." I could only respond, "Seriously?!" "Yes, honesty is a good thing," she replied. It ended with me saying, "Thank you so much!" and almost jumping to my truck. It's so easy to get jaded and expect the negative in this business. She helped to renew my hope for humanity.
