Delivery story 461

I work for a Pizza Hut in Texas Hill Country. One night I was working and a delivery came up on the screen which, while about 5 miles away, was still in our delivery area. The tips in that area are usually decent so I didn't mind going out there even though I had been out there a few times already that night. So the order was done, I collected the 2-liters and cheese and peppers and I was off.

I made it to the street on the ticket but there were no numbers on any of the mailboxes, so when I drove to the end of the street I called the number on the ticket asking them to stand outside and let me know when I'm there. He told me to go to the end of the street and make a left. When I asked why the address was wrong he said, "It's real close." About a half-mile later, I asked him where it's at and he told me to make a right turn at the highway which is about 2 miles away. A little annoyed at this point, I asked him how much farther and he said, "Not that much."

When I passed the last road along this highway that was still in our delivery area, I asked him (not hiding how annoyed I was) where I was supposed to turn, and that was when I got the bad news. He was in the next town over which is more than 6 miles further! He told me to make a turn at the second light three miles into the town. He then directed me turn-by-turn 3 miles more to the farthest point in the town. I made the delivery because I figured I was half-way there, anyway, and while I was skeptical he promised a big tip and I was greedy. He came through, sort of, with an eleven dollar tip but 40 miles and one hour later it almost didn't seem worth it.
