Delivery story 46

Robert writes:

I've delivered for Pizza Hut in Florida for about nine months and then moved to Fairborn, Ohio and have delivered at Domino's for almost a year. I have a delivery that happened on one of my nighttime deliveries for Domino's that cracks everyone up.

I was delivering to a low income neighborhood. I got to the house and there were no cars in the driveway, which I thought was strange since the order was for about $50. When I got to the door of the house, it reeked like cats that have NEVER had baths. When I knocked on the door, a guy pushed me out of the way and ran out to my vehicle. He stared at the front of it for a few seconds, said okay, and went back inside his house. He stood in a corner and pointed to his couch inside and stuttering while he said it, said, "You can put it right there." The couch was right next to the door, so I didn't even have to go inside the house, since it's against policy of course. I set it on the couch and said, "It looks like you're having a party," because of all the pizzas he ordered, and he stuttered again and said, "Yeah ... a party." After he said that, a swarm of cats moved into the room, probably about 20 or 30 (no exaggeration.) I stuck the check he gave me with a four dollar tip into my pocket and told him to have a nice night and left.

He was a good tipper, but I've never seen his address appear again so I've missed the fun of seeing the Cat Guy again.

One time, I had a delivery to the Air Force base. I got on base with no problem and the MPs directed me, but when I got to the building, there was a police car with its flashers on and a cop hiding behind a tree. I thought it was weird and parked my car. Four guys came out of the building. The two in front were in military dress and the two in back wore white t-shirts. They all looked hungry and the two in front flagged me over, so I assumed they were the right ones and went over there.

They were the right ones, but the guys in back were holding guns to the backs of the military people who ordered the pizza and directed them not to make any sudden moves. As I looked around, very confused, I noticed a few snipers and more police hiding behind trees. This made me feel very strange, but I did the transaction and later I was informed of something. The whole thing was a drill. They were practicing a terrorism scenario with hostages on base. I guess hostages are hungry, too. After getting stiffed, I went back to my car and began to drive away when one of the cops from around the building flagged me down and asked if they gave me any leading information. I told him no, so he asked what they ordered because he was hungry.
