Delivery story 435

Pizza B writes:

I worked for Pizza Hut in Suffolk, VA from 1990 to 1995. I have worked there plus other locations since then, and have returned to working for them (now Pizza Hut/NPC) since 2010.

While working for the Suffolk, VA delivery unit, I was robbed at gunpoint once and had pizza snatched out of my car.

The robbery at gunpoint happened in what I thought was a very nice Trailer park off of Nansemond Parkway in Suffolk. It was my birthday and I was the closing driver. It was my last delivery of the night. Anyway, I was used to my customers not having their porch lights on, just the TV on in the living room, so I didn't think anything of it when I pulled up the the "house" and walked to the door. I knocked, the door started to open and then I am met by a teenager with a gun! He makes me enter the "house" and makes me drop the pizza bag (ya'll remember that pizza called Bigfoot?) and tells me to put my hands above my head. He then asks, "Where is the money, b#!ch!" I motioned with one finger pointing down to my apron, and he comes over to me, puts the gun to my head and proceeds to clean out my apron! He then ushers me to another room and tells me to stay there.

Imagine this now. I am shaking, scared to death and listening for any sounds that indicate he has left the trailer. I hear the front door close and peek out of the window and see someone going through my car. He sees me and runs off. I make for the front door and cannot open it. I start beating on the door and screaming for help. I finally get the door open and get out of there, still screaming for help and some of the neighbors came out to assist me. I didn't have a cell phone back then and they called the police for me and called my store for me. I had to wait for the police to come, they arrived, took down the info and then I returned to the store. My manager at the time was very concerned and actually gave me back the money that was stolen from me.

The next day the police came to my house and informed me that they had caught the guys. I found out they had tried to rob a girl that worked for Domino's that same night. Turns out the teenager had actually lived in that trailer I was robbed at, but had recently moved with his Dad to another town, but was there visiting his friends the night of the robbery. The other guy was a "boyfriend" to one of my babysitters in that trailer park. She told me that they had told her they were gonna do it and she was sorry it had happened to me.

So now I go to court and find out the first one they go after is the one that went through my car, not the one holding me at gunpoint. The one that held me at gunpoint was 14 years old. They were prosecuting him in Juvy court. I go to that court date and was told that he was pleading and it wasn't necessary for me to be there. I asked if I could sit in and was told yes, so I listen to all the questioning and answers given by the witnesses, etc, and the one thing that pissed me off was the fact that the mother was sitting there telling the prosecutor that her son was a good boy, very shy. This made me extremely mad. I poked him and said I really need to get up on that stand, for someone who is very shy does not put a gun to someone's head and scream, "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY, B#!CH!" He agreed to put me on the stand. I got to tell the Juvy judge just what went on that night, telling her he was not a shy boy, etc. In the end he got six months in Juvy hall with 3 months early release for good behavior. I was pissed! His friend got a bit more time as he was tried as an adult.

The pizza snatching happened in a area called Lake Kennedy in Suffolk. I was given a double run to this area, one being that damn BigFoot pizza and then a single pie for the other one. When I arrived to the first delivery, a bunch of teenage boys basically surrounded my car. I told them to back off or I will leave with the pie. They backed off and I stayed in the car, not taking the chance. I cracked my window just enough to take the kid's money, then I put the single on my dash to get that BigFoot Pizza outta the bag. I slid the pizza through the crack in the window and then someone reached in and grabbed the other pouch on my dash and started to pull it out of the car! I got a hold of the bag, trying to pull it back in, then remembered what happened at the robbery, so I let it go and hauled ass. The kid threw something at my car. Later I found out it was the cup of sauce from the snatched bag. I called the cops, called the store, and waited. The cops came and I told them what happened and they got right on it and found the person.

I was relieved but then a month or so later, I was down in that same area, delivering and for some reason, I went to the right house number, but on the wrong street. I admitted my mistake, went back to my car, and on the way back to my car, one of the guys said, "Hey! You you look familiar. Don't press charges or else." I freaked out, went to the right house, back to the store and told the manager. Then I called the cops, told them, and I am not sure what happened after that. I told my manager I would not be delivering to the Lake Kennedy area again, daylight or nighttime! She didn't press the issue.
