Delivery story 340

Thom writes:

Ithaca, NY has its share of manufacturing plants and machine shops and their employees order from our independent pizza place regularly, usually two or three times a week. One of these machine shops is right across the street from us. Typically for a Friday night we have an order for a couple of subs with a request for a 7:20 delivery. Their workers have a break from 7:30 to 8 and usually ask for their food a few minutes early so they have the whole break to eat it. I delivered the two subs in question and got a $6 tip, and then I delivered the other two orders I had in my car and headed back to the store.

Upon arriving, I found out that there was another (separate) order going to that machine shop that the kitchen staff forgot to make, and was supposed to be delivered for 7:20 (it was now 7:45) and I asked if I could rush it over there and offer a credit if the customer complained. I agreed, and took the two subs back to the shop.

As soon as I pulled up, the customer started stumbling (he almost looked drunk) towards my car while shouting, "F--- YOU, F--- (restaurant name.) I MISSED MY DINNER YOU LITTLE S---. COME HERE I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS, AND THEN I'M GOING TO (owner's name) AND THREATEN TO BEAT THE S--- OUT OF HIM IF HE DOESN'T FIRE YOUR ASS." I felt threatened at this point, so I threw the subs on the ground and got in my car and drove away.

My boss was actually really cool about it, and we both had a good laugh over it before saying that his belligerent behavior was completely unacceptable, and although I probably should have taken the sandwiches with me if he was unwilling to pay, I did the right thing considering the unsafe situation. He never ordered from us again.
