Delivery story 334

Sarah writes:

I am a delivery driver for a Pizza Hut in Indiana. I was delivering in mid-winter, and we had just gotten our first snow of the winter. I was delivering to a house that was not very far away from the store, just about a quarter of a mile. I walk up to the house, and gave the woman her order and she handed me cash folded up. I walked away with the money in hand, and started to count it when I got back in my car. I noticed that there was $42 dollars in my hand, but their order was only $25. So, I thought to myself, should I take it back?

I put my car in reverse and headed back up to the customers' house in the 15 degree weather. Four women answered the door and I explained to them the situation and one woman says, "Oh, we meant to give you that much. We understand that you don't have to be out here delivering and we are very grateful!" I said many thanks and the lady added, "And that's very sweet and honest of you! Merry Christmas!" I was speechless and I left with the biggest smile on my face. A $17 dollar tip!!!! That's almost a 60% tip!

Anyway, the point of my story is simply that not all customers are stingy, and occasionally you get the one that really understands just how much us delivery drivers endure for what little money we make.
