Delivery story 3

I've been a Pizza Delivery Driver for two months for a town called Azle (west of Ft Worth) at a Pizza Inn. I must say I've seen alot in just those two months. I'll go with a positive story first.

One night, the weather got particularly nasty. Flash flooding was in effect. It was a delivery nightmare. (Your thinking this is positive?) One residential area was built so the houses were elevated more than the roads, so every bit of rainwater came rushing down the road in massive amounts. Some areas, the water was hitting my bumper ... but hey, these people want their pizza. :) When I arrive, their driveway is extremely steep, and my car being old ... the emergency brake didn't work right. So, I parked down by the road, grabbed the pizza and hopped out into the horribly cold rain (and river at that.) By the time I got up to the front door (no porch cover) I was completely soaked head to toe. I knocked and they opened the door. This was the completely nicest couple I've ever met on delivery. They weren't but maybe 30 years old. The order cost 13 dollars. They gave me 25 and said keep the change. They offered to allow me to come in and warm up. I declined but was touched at thier thoughtfulness. They ordered again a few days later and I made damn sure they got a pizza within 15 minutes from ordering.

Now for the horribly evil people I've met :) That night, the store closed at 10:00 PM. At this store as well, the closing driver cleans the back kitchen before they leave (dishes, mopping ... the whole bit) and at 9:50 we get a delivery call to a road called Pelican Bay which is, speeding, 15 minutes away due to wonderful 40 mph zones. This area is a delivery driver's nightmare. It's mostly trailer houses ... and no addresses. Tons of courts ... and it's very easy to get turned around, even lost, if you're not used to the area. This one house was on one of the who-knows-how-many courts in the area. I drove and drove and drove, knowing where the road "should" be according to the map ... but it wasn't there. After looking for a good 10-15 minutes, I left to the nearest pay phone (a lot closer than the store) ... wasted up 50 cents (what's up with pay phones these days) called the lady who YELLED at me! She was absolutely pissed that I had to call her for directions. Turns out, her "road" looked more like a driveway and had no road sign. Go figure. Second, even her mailbox didn't have an address. She sent her daughter out to wait for me to pass back. Sad, sad. Worse off, she did not tip me. So, I got back to the store extremely late and extremly pissed. I'll give her a bit of credit ... took her delivery again tonight, got to her house after taking two other deliveries (oh, her's was the first out.) She did tip me three bucks this time. Good girl. Must have read this website.
