I've worked for Domino's in Southern Maryland for about five years. The other night there was a snowstorm, which left quite a bit of black ice on the road the next day. I had just left a delivery where the customer apologized for calling me out there in bad weather, but didn't tip me. I was leaving the neighborhood, doing about 15 miles per hour because I was aware of the black ice. I came around a turn and started to slide. I tried to correct the car, but a large truck was coming the other way. I ended up sliding off the road into a large gully and came to rest against a tree. Before I even knew what was going on, the man who had been driving the truck was pulling me out of the car. Less than five minutes later, the fire department, EMS, police, towing company, and salt trucks had arrived. They couldn't see my car from the road, so I had to stand in front of where the accident had occurred. Now I'm out a 500 dollar deductible less than a month before Christmas, and I was barely making ends meet as it was. Everyone keeps telling me I should be happy to be alive, but I feel like I shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place.
When the delivery fee was instituted, I noticed my tips decreased. I even had one lady come out of her house screaming at me about it. (I had her blacklisted.) Not long after we started with the delivery fee, the owners of my store died in a car accident. We recently got new owners and THEY decided to decrease my mileage even though gas prices keep going up. They will not allow my manager to give me a raise. I decided two nights ago that my life is not worth a bunch of two dollar tips, and, I am looking for a new job.
What you need to realize, as you're sitting in your nice, warm home on your comfortable couch, is that the person bringing you food is not only risking their life and their car, they are out in the elements all the time, dodging idiots on the road. People ought to be more appreciative of that.
