About five years ago I worked for a Pizza Hut in Colorado Springs, CO.
I had the biggest loss of any of your stories.
For those that don't know, Colo Springs is prone to some nasty weather, including flash floods and hail storms.
My car at the time was a 2002 Ford Focus, top of the line with heated seats, moonroof, 6 disc changes, etc. It was about 4-5 months old at the time, with just a few thousand miles.
One night, while out delivering, during one of these flash flood hail storms, I came across what looked like a couple inches of water in an intersection. On the other side of this "puddle" was a cop car just sitting there, headlights on, but no flashers.
So I head across the water, only to find that this couple inches of water was actually 2-3 feet across a steep dip in the road. As I drove in, my car's engine cut out. That's when I realized I was FLOATING. I tried to start the car again. BIG MISTAKE.
Since it was near the end of my shift, my engine was warm. I'd been all over town. When I tried to start my car, it sucked water in through the exhaust, where the ICE COLD water from the hail and flash floods CRACKED the BLOCK in my car!
I got out of my car into this ICE COLD water and called a co-worker's cell, who came and delivered my pizza. As I got out, the water rushed into my car, flooding it inside, and it sank into the icy pond. The cop, who had been sitting there, started to drive toward my floating car. HIS cop car started floating in, and I had to push on the hood of his car to get him back on land while he put it in reverse and floored it to keep HIS car from getting jacked up.
ALL 100% TRUE. BEAT THAT STORY!
Fortunately, I had good insurance coverage and it paid off what I owed and got me into a new car.
