| Delivery story 119

Of the numerous stories I could supply for you, one in particular always stands out in my mind.
It was about a month or so after Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast. My store received a call from one of the area hotels for a delivery that was to be paid with a credit card. As is typical for this situation, the credit card number was taken over the phone and printed on the receipt so that the driver could run the card and have a receipt for the person to sign to confirm the purchase. The phones at my particular store tend to be rather quiet and frequently make it extremely hard to hear anyone calling from the area hotels. So I tried to run the card through the credit system only to find that the card number was incorrect because of a mix up when the card number was taken. I politely called the hotel, asked to be connected with the room, and explained to this woman that the credit card wasn't accepted by the machine and that I was calling to resolve the issue. The woman immediately overreacted and started ranting on about how it's a RED CROSS debit card and it can't be rejected. She asks to speak to a manager, begins complaining at length about the inadequacy of the store and questions how she is going to be repaid for the problems she has had to deal with. Like numerous other drivers have said about similar situations, I immediately thought that this lady definitely needs to be spending this money in a far more wise manner, such as buying food from a local grocery store. I can't believe this lady is ordering pizza first of all, but then because of a minor mix up she's complaining like everything was done wrong.
Finally, the manager hung up the phone and explained the correct number to me and that I was only to charge her half price. After running the credit card through the system, I made the delivery and of course she complained a little more to me and then did not tip. After her pizza arrived on time for half price, she still refused to tip. It's people like her that make me really hate my job some days.
