Objections

9. The pizza was free / discounted.

Most people don't remember to tip when the order is free. They must think 15% of zero is zero. The same thing happens when they receive a large discount.

Remember, the order must still be delivered. The driver does the same work.

Since the order is free, you should be more free to tip.

The $3 minimum usually applies in this situation. In general, one tips based on the original amount before applying a discount.

If it was discounted for the following reasons, you should still tip.

  • You received the wrong pizza on some earlier day.
  • It was late. Remember, the driver doesn't make it late.
  • The cook messed up and had to remake it. That's a kitchen mistake.
  • It was erroneously listed as a pick-up (carry-out.) The driver is not responsible for in-store mistakes.
  • You received a special deal of some kind.

  • If it was free or discounted for another reason, you might have a time when not to tip.

You're getting all this pizza for free or with a considerable discount. The least you can do is tip.
