38. Calling back after being put on
hold
-
If you call the store and are put on hold, there is an etiquette you should follow. However, some people are too impatient. They hang up, call back, and expect to be put at the
front of the line.
-
This causes a problem because there are other
customers ahead of you in the queue, either waiting on hold or placing their
order. It's not fair to the others to let you jump ahead. This is like taking
cuts in line. If you hang up and call back, you have lost your place in line
and return to last in the queue.
-
Please do not hang up and try to take cuts.
Your order will be taken as soon as they can get to you.
-
The real cause of being put on hold is management.
They might have six phone lines but only three computer terminals. This means
only three orders can be taken at once while three others must remain on
hold. To make matters even worse, there might be only two employees working the
phones because of understaffing.
-
A store is supposed to have enough available terminals
to match the number of phone lines, but this is usually not the case in many
stores. Please be patient.
