| The most aggravating things about
being a driver
10. The driver was given the wrong
address.
-
The wrong address appeared on the delivery
ticket. This is usually a mistake by someone else in the store, such as a
phone person. At times, the customer gave faulty information.
-
This sends the driver to the wrong house
or to an address that does not exist. The driver must return to the store
since most customers refuse to answer the driver's cell phone. They screen the caller-id and won't answer unless it has the store's name. Even today, a lot of drivers don't have cell phones and can't reach a pay phone. You must call the customer from the store to get the correct address. This will triple the drive
time and it's not the driver's fault.
-
For the driver, this is a double bind.
You return "emptyhanded" from this delivery. You miss the next set of deliveries
that you otherwise would have taken because you're still on this delivery.
You can't take others until this one has been completed. And since it took
much longer, it usually arrives late and the customer punishes you with a bad
tip. When I call the customer to get the right address, they assume I got lost and I can see my tips go down the drain.
-
Sometimes the driver calls without leaving
the store because it was obvious the address was wrong. The delivery was
not attempted. When I call the customer to get the correct address, they
automatically assume I got lost and blame me and punish me with a bad tip.
